Surfside
Beach was previously Roach's Beach, with only a few buildings
surviving the hurricane of 1893. The area was purchased in the
early 1920s. The economy consisted of lumber and feed farming.
The area changed hands a few more times. In 1952, the land changed
hands again it was then developed into what we know today as
Surfside Beach.
