8 miles south of Myrtle Beach, you will find Garden City Beach
nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the tidal creeks of Murrells
Inlet to the west. Garden City Beach stretches for miles from
Surfside Beach south to Inlet Point.
Garden
City has seen many changes over the years, with many new homes
being built. A fixture in Garden City is the Garden City Pier.
Although it was torn down after Hurricane Hugo, it was rebuilt
shortly thereafter. Many families come back every year to enjoy
the beaches, fishing, and water activities. Many people visit
Garden City Beach to enjoy a hot dog at Sam's Corner, fishing
on the pier, and bands that play on the pier every night throughout
the summer months.
The
major portion of Garden City is a spit of beach houses, or maybe
it's sand, separating the waters of Murrells Inlet from the
ocean. The northern portion of the community also has plenty
of vacation houses, but the beachfront is dominated by large
high-rise condos.
The
area is predictably a family vacation mecca; featuring proximity
to the beach, the activities of Myrtle Beach, and the food of
Murrells Inlet. The views across the tidal marshes are excellent!
